An estranged Chinese mother and her American son are both rejected by society and consequently brought back together. She’s on the verge of collapse after a foreclosure when she suddenly shows up at her son’s apartment. He’s a struggling comedian with earnest hopes of recognition. In constant, oftentimes absurd, conflict with society and each other, mother and son strive to improve their lots while attempting to come to terms with their mutual and troubled past.
